Boekenwijsheid

Ik haal mijn "wijsheid" uit boeken, dat is ondertussen wellicht algemeen geweten. Een boekje dat recentelijk mijn non-fictie kast vervoegde is "The sewing answer book. Solutions to every problem you'll ever face, answers to every question you'll ever ask", door Barbara Weiland Talbert.

Ik ben nog maar aan p. 100 (jawel, ik lees alles van A tot Z en snor niet gewoon de dingen op die ik nodig heb, het is een ziekte, ik weet het :) ), maar heb al heel vaak een "ahaaaa, zo zit dat!"-gevoel gehad. Eén Q&A wil ik met jullie delen, want het kwam ter sprake tijdens de naaiclub bij Annemie.

"Is there a quick and easy way to rip out inaccurate machine stitches?" Inderdaad, we willen allemaal wel weten hoe we onze 'beste vriend' zo efficiënt mogelijk kunnen gebruiken! Hier is het antwoord:

"There are several ways to 'unstitch a seam', but I find this method the fastest, easiest, and safest. On the bobbin-thread [onderdraad] of the seam, use a sharp seam ripper (or small, sharp scissors) [je beste vriend dus] to lift and snip every fifth or sixth stitch. Flip the piece over and pull the thread. It should lift away easily in one piece, leaving only small thread tufts on the reverse to remove. Run a piece of masking tape [gewoon plakband] over the seamline to pick them up or use a lint roller [zo'n ding om pluisjes te verwijderen van stof], a small foam paintbrush [eh, schuim en penseel, maar in combinatie ken ik dat niet], or a pink pencil eraser to whisk them away."

Voila! Klinkt als een stukje taart!
